The Apelido are among the stranger races that exist. Their outward appearance differs greatly, a good portion of their bodies being composed of cybernetic parts. They first arose as a race with the creation of robotic technology and limb replacement in that of other alien races. The first examples were merely the replacing of limbs or artificial body parts performed under medical procedures. After a Syanasi ship crash landed on a remote planet the robots on board performed impromptu operations on the survivors. Those who survived both the crash and operations were turned into the first cyborgs, becoming the first recognised members of the Apelido. They differed from their robot counterparts through the use of rational thought. After this first step had been taken, the various members used their expertise to repair the ship and travel back to the Syanasi home-world where they began to perform similar operations on the inhabitants there. This caused outrage amongst the native contingent and they became a matter of law in the planetary parliament.
The matter was discussed for some time before the burgeoning Apelido were ordered to leave the planet. As such, the various cyborgs left on a number of ships bound for an empty region of space. The Apelido were able to quickly expand their numbers, converting members of other races with a number of cybernetic components built into their bodies, converting them into an Apelido. As such, they have no set characteristics in terms of appearance other that the machinery built into their bodies. These can range from anything such as metallic limbs to manufactured organs. In rare circumstances, some Apelido even integrate a computer chip into their brains. Alongside this, the Apelido upgrade their artificial systems, giving them enhanced sight and reflexes. Weapons too are sometimes built into their bodies and. Since the Apelido resort to the use of their mechanic parts, they have significant demand for power and they began attacking passing ships. This meant that the Apelido increased their numbers as well as harvesting the parts they needed to recharge themselves after strenuous use. They are also susceptible to anything that wipes out their electrical parts and are vulnerable to attack when recharging. However, due to this they're life spans are much longer than the other races, just as long as they are able to maintain enough power to keep their systems charged.
The location of the Apelido controlled planets put them into close proximity to the Catani. This was unfortunate for the race as the Catani met with initial success, wiping out two of the smaller Apeldio colonies. However, due to the interchangeable nature of their machinery, they were quickly able to adapt and create newer weapons worked into their bodies. One such weapon and one of the more powerful ones was the ability to release a bolt of electricity. However, this meant that it would deplete them with all power and cause their systems to shut down. However, very much like the Rebuscar, the Apelido were able to re-use old parts to replace either their damaged mechanic or organic components. This made the race incredibly hard to kill and resilient to the Catani invasions. The Apelido were even able to turn some of the Catani warriors a number of their elite soldiers into members of the Apelido race. Their combination of machinery and Catani strength quickly made them the cream of their fighting force. They quickly established themselves as one of the most powerful races but they’re relatively small numbers in comparison to the other races meant they were never truly able to turn the tide of war.
