The Rakkan system is home to a number of different races. They lived in relative harmony, the various species following the similar cycle of political strife, war and intermittent bouts of peace seen the world over. The most technological advanced race in the various galaxies that comproised Rakkan were generally those of the Syanasi. Their historical standing and prestige placed them at the forefront of all cutting edge developments in the various sciences and bio-mechanic industries. Indeed, the first full working robots were manufactured on Siash. At this time the Catani were an emerging regional superpower but the Syanasi had enjoyed unbridled success in the areas that stoked their keen interest. The only other alien race that matched the Syanasi were the Taabe. The Taabe possessed a mystical reputation, choosing to remain aloof in a large number of historical events that were etched into the annals of history. The evolution of all of the races increased exponentially and soon the Syanasi found themselves sharing their technological advancements with the universe at large and incorporating rival technologies into their own.
Before the emergence of the Great Catani war in the year 2456, relations between the Apelido and the Syanasi homeworld soured. The Apelido had arisen from the existence of the Syanasi. A Syanasi ship crash landed on a remote planet in 2305 and the androids on board performed the functions they were designed for. They replaced wounded limbs or body parts with what was on hand; the destroyed components of the robots that they had designed. As such, the first Apelido were created and after they successfully returned to Siash they received negative treatment there. They were treated as nothing more than as a sub-standard form of life and ordered to leave. The Apelido quickly forged their world of Atasmo, their cities being geared towards the successful integration of new life forms as well as the maintenance of its existing populace. The Apelido began raiding passing ships for spare parts as well as integrating more members to the race. This caused tensions to rise to an all new high and war soon emerged in the year 2379.
The fighting while bloody was important for one reason. It was the first example of inter-planetary warfare that brought the members of other races into the fold. The Rebuscar forged impromptu alliances with both sides, supplying both weapons and parts to both the Apelido and Syanasi for profit. The Chinii, due to their close proximity to the Atasmo, they found themselves brought into the war. Their unexpected addition turned the tide of the war in favour of their cyborg allies. At the Heavens of Apalatio the Syanasi were decisively beaten. A bitter peace treaty was signed in 2386 in which areas of Syanasi influence were surrendered. This was significant since the Catani home-world was placed in close proximity to these planets. As the 24th century came to a close, Catani power and prestige had reached new levels. Due to their strict adherences to education and reform, the industrious and intellectual nature of the Catani was realised. Their own technological advancements soon outstripped those of their Syanasi counterparts.
This was not initially a problem for the Rakkan System due to the generally peaceful outlook of the Catani. However, more aggressive elements on the Catani planet of Cundach began to make gestures of war. They sincerely believed that Catani power was not respected as it should be and that their power should be shown by force. The liberal government of Cundach was overthrown and a bitter civil war ensued in 2451 between the overthrown government and the more reactionary elements that had seized control. This resulted in the expulsion of the moderate left. As a direct result, the Catani chased these so called defectors to the planets that had been under Syanasi influence in the years prior. Thus the beginning of the Catani threat was now realised. Utilising the resources and manpower the Catani received here they quickly grew their military in terms of manpower and hardware. This resulted in the annihilation of the Bromheliad and Halotta. They either died under the initial invasion or were used later on as an army of cannon fodder, used to be slaughtered against the Catani’s enemies.
The Syashi were the first to encounter the Catani threat. This marked the outbreak of what is considered to be the Great War in 2356. The Catani war machine was truly devastating, unleashing hell on Siash. The Syanasi had built a weapon rumoured to have existed. As such the Catani were relentless in their attacks. This resulted in the complete takeover of the planet. Many Syanasi were able to escape and fight on with their new found allies but their home-world was now deprived from them with the remaining captured Syanasi facing the prospect of a lifetime of imprisonment. The next races to feel the pinch were the Animaru and Chinii. Both races would have been overwhelmed if it had not been for the formation of the Alliance of Steel in 2461. The remaining races now recognised the thread the Catani posed and now banded together to halt their advances. The Taabe were even lured into the conflict, their belief that the Catani were the ones to bring the apocalypse forcing their hand. The realignment of power dramatically halted the pace of the Catani war machine and as the year 2465 began, the first significant losses had been enacted. However, the war is still ongoing and the Catani threat is now bigger than ever.
