PLOT LINE THREAD
The desert is particularly harsh, bitter winds throwing up sand into the eyes of anyone daring enough to be out on such a day. The sun beats down its torrent of rays, radiating upon the skin of the young woman strewn across the sand. The stinging sand continues to blister her exposed arms and legs, her movements still relatively small and weak. Raelyn reaches up to her head and touches the metal chip embedded into the top of her skull. A small pang of pain is felt as her fingers touch the metal edges, her mind resolutely ignoring the dust storm raging around her.
The small Syanasi stirs briefly after what feels like hours, every movement of her fatigued limbs causing yet more discomfort. She looks around her, now suddenly afraid. Still she knew why this was. The fear is replaced by an overwhelming feeling of anger and hatred, Raelyn envisioning herself at stabbing and wrenching out the eyes of the first person she met, regardless of who or what they had done. The anger continued to grow like a caged animal, the pain emanating from the crown of her head in vast droves as the chip does its work. She knew the logic and science behind it; it had been explained by a smug looking Catani scientist. The guards had looked terrifying when they held her down and she had been unsure as to their intentions. Now the raging inferno within her that matched the weather blasting her from every direction made them all feel small and weak. She knew she wouldn’t last against such huge men but to just an attempt to rip them apart was all she wanted, all she needed.
The anger subsided quickly just as it had come. The chip had released enough endorphins into her hypothalamus for one sitting. She thought it was almost taunting her, the way it backed her emotions from the brink of breaking point. She still remembered the scientist’s words. The endorphins heightened aggression and agitation, basically becoming a form of control where the prisoners would lash out at each other more than they have done so far. It was inevitable. The Catani wanted the prisoners to kill themselves. It explained the record breaking number of prisoners being brought into the planet. The Catani needed test subjects for their new experiment. Raelyn shrugged all of these thoughts of and began crawling the way she had been told to go. Hopefully towards the settlements and a better existence than laying here in the desert. Her priority was clear, remove the chip and then get revenge.
